The Ensign Academy of Dentistry provides scholarships and awards for the purpose of promoting the mission of the Academy

EDUCATION: Academy Founder, Dr. Gordon Christensen, is driven to provide stellar education and cutting edge information for students in the dental field. He believes in the power of students to positively impact the world around them through dentistry. The Academy Academic Scholarship Awards (Dental Student, Dental Hygiene Student, and New Graduate Awards) are given with the goal of supporting students in their education through financial assistance and complimentary attendance at the conference.
FELLOWSHIP: Elder M. Russell Ballard, in a conference address in October 1988, said “Let us adhere to the counsel of the Apostle Paul and be “no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God.” (Eph. 2:19.). He continued “We must not reserve our kindness and affection only for our fellow members. We must be sensitive and not oblivious to the feelings of those whose views may differ from ours. Considering the early history of the Church in these latter days, unkindness or indifference toward others should be abhorrent to members of the Church.” Additionally, in an address to the student body at BYU in October 2013 Neal LaVaun Cox, then Associate Dean of Students shared “Let us better open this campus to fellowshipping so that it may someday also be said of us, ‘And they did fellowship one with another, and did rejoice one with another, and did have great joy.'” At the Academy we also feel strongly that great good comes from gathering together and fellowshipping one with another. Our hope is that as students attend the conference they will feel the spirit of service and friendship at the conference and will be inspired to continue to join us in fulfilling the mission of the Academy as active and involved members.
HUMANITARIAN SERVICE: Dr. Terry Ferrell, Past Academy President, found that the experiences he had serving during a humanitarian trip as a new dentist changed his perspective and focus toward a desire to serve. He believes that these experiences changed his life for the better. We hope that providing financial assistance in the form of a Humanitarian Service Trip Scholarship will allow others to experience that same joy in service and will encourage the recipient to become actively involved as a member of the Ensign Academy of Dentistry with a desire to serve, mentor and educate others. President Thomas S. Monson said “To find real happiness, we must seek for it in a focus outside ourselves. No one has learned the meaning of living until he has surrendered his ego to the service of his fellow man. Service to others is akin to duty—the fulfillment of which brings true joy. [“Guideposts for Life’s Journey,” BYU devotional address, 13 November 2007]
